Detox Diet – How Toxic Are You (Part 2)
Now, there’s a question that can make you shudder: How toxic are you? It’s a question that evokes images of people exposed to sludge-filled toxic ponds, leaking nuclear plants and polluted air. While things are better than decades ago, accidents and pollution happen.
Exposure to toxins is simply not something you can hide from. It is inevitable. Toxins are:
- In the air
- In food
- In water
- In-house and yard pesticides
- In cleaning materials and products
- In cosmetics and hygiene products
It would be comfortable just to sit back and do nothing. If toxins are inevitable then why try to avoid them? Why not just enjoy life and breathe in the pollution and eat your favorite toxic food, and use the type of makeup that looks best? Is this enjoying life?
How can you enjoy life when you’re fatigued, have digestive problems, are continually stressed, have health problems, scratch skin rashes and just generally feel lousy? How can you enjoy life knowing that you’re filling your body with pollutants that can eventually lead to cancer, organ failure, heart attacks and strokes and even obesity?
When your physical systems aren’t functioning efficiently, and your emotional and spiritual well-being is damaged, your quality of life is degraded. You may not have colon cancer or heart disease yet, but your day-to-day activities are certainly affected if you don’t do something to lessen your exposure to toxic substances.
Think about the times you decided not to go out with friends because you were just too exhausted. How many times have you missed attending one of your children’s athletic or school events because your digestive system was not functioning correctly and you needed a restroom close by? How often have you found yourself trying to get your work done despite feeling out-of-sorts, tired and having memory problems?
Toxicity doesn’t hit you like a swinging sledgehammer. It creeps up on you over time and begins to sap enjoyment, happiness, contentment and good health. You may not even recognize at first that your “tired days” are getting more frequent or that your “stress days” are becoming a regular occurrence. There’s an old expression that says, “Life happens.” Well, so does toxicity!
The best way to begin analyzing your physical, emotional and spiritual health is to take a quiz that places you on a spectrum of general well-being. You must put your life under a microscope to uncover all the areas where toxins of any kind may affect your life. Once you understand your current status, it’s much easier to establish and follow a detoxification program.
